Se acabaron las bromas cuando hablemos de Benidorm. Es tiempo de sentarse a reflexionar muy en serio sobre nuestro futuro. Es nuestra más absoluta responsabilidad dejar de quejarnos y de criticar a aquellos que nos gobiernan. Su incapacidad y su indolencia no son más que el resultado de nuestra elección. Así lo quisimos y con ello hemos tenido que apechugar durante los últimos cuatro años. Se cierne sobre la economía de Benidorm una incertidumbre que tenemos que atajar con responsabilidad y celeridad. Lo dijo Juan Roig al referirse a España y lo reafirmo yo al referirme a mi ciudad: hay que salir del armario e involucrarse en política, pues de lo contrario siempre estaremos en manos de quien nada tiene que perder y poco más sabe hacer, lo más mediocre de la sociedad.

Dentro de cuatro meses el Reino Unido abandonará la Unión Europea, porque así lo decidió una mayoría de británicos hace dos años, y eso nos repercute de manera total y completa a todos los que vivimos del turismo en esta ciudad. Es decir, nos repercute a todos, comarca de la Marina Baja incluida. Y todos aquellos profesionales que, por un lado son conscientes de esta realidad, y por otro tienen un reconocido prestigio en sus empresas, tienen la obligación de dar un paso adelante. No hacerlo puede ser catastrófico para el más inmediato y cercano futuro de nuestra siguiente generación, nuestros hijos.

Ver y escuchar discutir a nuestros políticos actuales durante hora y media sobre el coste de unos absurdos bolardos, y ver como son capaces de llegar al insulto por tan semejante vulgaridad, sólo es sinónimo de la más cruda realidad. Tenemos políticos en Benidorm que llevan más de 25 años calentando sillón. La mayoría de la actual Corporación es incapaz de tener un debate de altura, al 75% no se le conoce su timbre de voz después de 42 meses. Resulta lamentable e hiriente ver el nivel de quienes han de velar por nuestros intereses. No tienen la culpa. Optaron por estar ahí y ustedes les votaron. Y al ritmo que vamos, volverán a ser los mismos si entre todos no lo remediamos. Hay que dejar de mirarse el ombligo y pensar un poco más en el bien común. Debería ser obligatorio que cada uno de nosotros optara, al menos una vez, por dedicar cuatro años de su vida al servicio público.

Brexit, ese terremoto que se aproxima

Reino Unido, nuestro mayor granero de turistas, nuestra fuente de alimentación desde hace 50 años, entra en un período de incertidumbre absoluta. El Brexit se aproxima como un terremoto controlado. Crees que lo tienes todo previsto pero no deja de ser un temblor de tierra de magnitudes desconocidas. La libra ha llegado a estar por debajo del euro, un claro síntoma. De momento los hoteleros de Benidorm dicen no estar preocupados porque el verano de 2019 ya está vendido y el invierno de 2020 lo estará antes de que llegue el fatídico 31 de Marzo, fecha prevista la firma del anunciado divorcio. ¿Y después qué?.

Cuando los hoteleros dicen que no están preocupados, me recuerda al presidente que ratifica al entrenador de fútbol justo una semana antes de fulminarlo. Saben, mejor que nadie, que se aproxima una muy probable hecatombe. Todo circula a favor de un desempleo que a día de hoy está bajo mínimos en Inglaterra, pero que si empieza a subir, ¿cómo va a venir hasta Benidorm esa clase media/baja que nos ha dado de comer hasta hoy?.

¿Y nuestro equipo de Gobierno y su alcalde, que también es concejal de Turismo?, ¿creen ustedes que hablan de esto?, sólo tienen que ir a un Pleno y comprobar el nivel, se les van a poner los pelos de punta. Chorradas, tonterías y temas sin la más mínima sustancia, llenan las horas de un patético debate que, casi siempre, termina en el insulto y el “y tú más”.

Necesitamos con urgencia un paso adelante de gente capaz, que coja las riendas de la administración pública y le dé un giro de 180 grados a la forma de entender que Benidorm ya no es sólo la “gent del poble” sino una urbe cosmopolita que, a estas alturas, ya debería estar planificando su futuro. Mejorando la seguridad con una Comisaría que se planificó hace 17 años y ni siquiera está presupuestada, y unas comunicaciones que nos envían a la época del bisabuelo del actual Rey, Alfonso XIII. Sin Ave, con el aeropuerto a 60 kilómetros, con una N-332 del siglo pasado y con la seria amenaza de nuestras competentes autoridades amenazando con volver a incumplir la promesa de hacer gratuita la AP-7 a partir del 1 de enero de 2.020. Sigan ustedes, queridos empresarios y profesionales preparados, jugando a no querer saber nada de la política y tiempo tendremos todos para lamentarlo. Es la próxima gran crisis, la del turismo en Benidorm. ¿Se acuerdan de 1.978?, 40 años después todavía nos preguntamos donde se fue el mercado alemán.

United Kingdom, our biggest tourist barn, our source of food for 50 years, enters a period of absolute uncertainty. The Brexit is approaching like a controlled earthquake. You think you have everything planned but it is still a tremor of land of unknown magnitude. The pound has come to be below the euro, a clear symptom. At the moment the hoteliers of Benidorm say they are not worried because the summer of 2019 is already sold and the winter of 2020 will be before the fateful March 31 arrives, the scheduled date of the signing of the announced divorce. And after that?.

When the hoteliers say they are not worried, it reminds me of the president who ratifies the football coach just a week before shooting him down. They know, better than anyone, that a very probable catastrophe is approaching.
