The British reserves for the summer grow 3% in full recovery from Egypt, Tunisia and Turkey, which sink their prices to recover market
Alicante resists the envite of competitors better than Canarias and Salou
The tourist borrachera begins to diminish. The instability of competing destinations such as Tunisia, Turkey and Egypt, among others, because of their problems of insecurity caused by terrorism during the last three and four years allowed Spain in general, and the Costa Blanca in particular, to get a good pinch of the Client who fled those areas. This public, mainly British, bet on the Spanish market, which has been living income in recent seasons, which has been used to raise prices and gain lost profitability during the lead years of the crisis.
But it seems that the massive influx of international tourists fled from North Africa and Turkey has come to an end due to the evolution of tourist package sales to British for this summer season. The improvement in the political situation in those countries and the sharp price reductions that have been driving are helping reactivation to recover the lost land.
In Alicante, British tourism, its most faithful and important customer, continues to grow, but not as spectacularly as in previous years. Until February 2018, tourist package sales for the summer season originating in the United Kingdom and destination on the Costa Blanca have registered a 3% increase over last year, some 185,475 reserves, according to the latest Continuous Monitoring of Reservations of the Tour of the British Tourists, a report prepared by the firm GfK Retail for the hotel management Hosbec.
Benidorm brings together 169,640 of those packages sold (6% more than in the 2017 season), representing 91% of the Costa Blanca, which stores 34% of the total sold on the peninsula. In the Balearic Islands, the market that most British tourists receive from Spain, the packing contracts fall 3% from the previous year, while in the Canary Islands and the Costa Dorada (Salou) they also fell by 5% and 1.4% respectively.
The report warns that «competing destinations at an international level such as Turkey raise their figures by 80%. Also, Egypt, which shows an increase in its package reservations by 30%, «again being considered as a benchmark in the sun and the beach». These countries are basing their recovery in a simple strategy: low prices. An all-inclusive week can be contracted for the month of June in Tunisia for about 500
