Benidorm is still taking steps toward your certification as the first Smart tourist destination of Spain. The mayor of the city, Toni Perez, has received the report with the results of the testing of the UNE 178501 of Management of Tourist Destinations in which contains requirements that meets the town and which must adapt to obtain this certification. From now on, the efforts of the Entity Manager , in which officials from more than 20 municipal departments- will focus on correcting these aspects to «get the certification as a Tourist Destination Smart», which is «the immediate challenge» that the city has been marked in the field of Tourism, as stressed by the mayor.

The mayor has moved this message during the ceremony held in the Hall of the Town Hall which has outlined a balance of testing of the UNE 178501 in Benidorm, municipality chosen to test this rule next to Jaca, Vall D’Aran and Sanxenxo.

This event was attended by, among others, the secretary of State for Tourism, Matilde Asian; the Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, Juan Carlos Moragues; the president of SEGITTUR (Spanish state-society dedicated to the management of innovation and technology in tourism), Fernando de Paul: The Sub-delegate in Alicante, José Miguel Saval; the Regional Secretary for Tourism, Francesc Colomer, director general of the Valencian Tourist Agency (AVT), Raquel Huete; the manager of the Foundation Visit Benidorm, Leire Bilbao; as well as members of the municipal corporation and associations in the tourism sector; and students.

Report on the results of Benidorm, the responsible of Segittur has stated that the balance of testing has been «very positive», and added that it has detected «a strong alignment» between the requirements of the Standard» and «the previous work done by Benidorm» to achieve certifications such as ISO or of Technology Watch and Competitive Intelligence – the UNE 166006/2011. Paul has highlighted the «total commitment the Town Hall with the implementation of the norm», having allocated resources and staff to create an Entity Manager in charge of that Benidorm meets all requirements to be Smart Tourist Destination.

The mayor has assured that » DNA» of Benidorm include «the four areas to develop’ to be considered smart Tourist Destination: innovation, technology, sustainability and accessibility; and has had an impact on the involvement of the public and private sector to «advance the philosophy of ‘smart city’ throughout the value chain of tourist activity».

In that involvement and collaboration has also placed the State Secretariat for Tourism. In fact, hunger has stated that the Standard of Management of Tourist Destinations is based on the necessary «public-private partnerships».
